There are a variety of methods to eliminate a load-bearing panel. How you decide to do it depends on what you are trying to do. If two rooms with a flat ceiling are to be connected, then you will cover the wall with a beam concealed in the ceiling. If you want an open cathedral ceiling, you have to take the beam to the crest. In any event, you may have to construct some sort of temporary support wall before you can replace the current load-bearing wall. Almost all methods require the addition of a load beam. Putting the beam under the existing ceiling joints is a quite straightforward method.
Elite Floors recently completed a Beam Installation project. This opening had a column for support. We pulled it and installed a beam.
